Description

Mostly for gaming and some small streaming, going to upgrade the CPU to an 8350 for VR! Some graphic intensive games (GTA V, Overwatch, WoW, ESO) and some video editing and audio editing with Solidworks in between!

Part Reviews

CPU

Decent CPU for what I paid! Runs games well, and is easily overclocked!

CPU Cooler

Kind of bulky, but does the trick. Got it from a friend for free, easily set up!

Motherboard

Easy to work with, parts fit well, and bios is great!

Memory

Decent memory! Got it on sale and decided to go with the red to match my color scheme!

Storage

Decided to go black over blue! Better speeds for my games! WD is reliable and has great warranty!

Video Card

SUCH AN AMAZING CARD! This thing runs cool, quiet, and fast! Easy to work with, and super cheap! Going to crossfire when more come out!

Case

Big case, very basic and the cpu cooler fits well! Love the window in the side! Also like the removable hard drive bays.

Power Supply

First PSU I've had that isnt non-modular. Easy to hide cables and looks nice!

Really nice build and the red LEDs look awesome. Can I ask whether you had to update the BIOS on the mobo because I'm planning to use the same mobo with an FX-6300, and on my pcpartpicker list, it says some AMD 970 chipsets need a BIOS update prior to using vishera CPUs. Sorry to annoy you,I'm new to PC building...

It actually did by itself with the MSI Live update! I'm glad you're thinking about the MSI 970 and fx 6300! They work really well together! If it's your first build, I 100% recommend it!

I would recommend getting an i3 6100 instead because it performs better and offers a better upgrade path.

Ok thanks I just switched to an i3-6100

You're welcome and thank you for not calling me an Intel fan boy like others have

Looking at the CPU temp you have under load and the CPU cooler, I say overclock to 4.6 or even higher. Great build though, I'm almost ready to build an FX-6300/GTX 950 build, pretty hype. Also, I highly recommend adding an SSD for the OS and games for a much faster load time than the HDD. :)

It's just figuring out what I can OC to, first pc built so ill have to research! Any tips for OC's?

PigWithAMustache
  • 8 years 8 months ago

I haven't finished my build yet, but from what I've researched, go little by little, and see what your PC can handle.

Very nice build, six cores will come in handy with some light streaming and what not. As for gaming though, it really needs an overclock to push it's unlocked potential. Other than that, great build. It's amazing what this amount of money can get you nowadays versus what I first spent on my computer six months ago.

Overclocking is def. next on the list! Especially if I plan on doing any VR with this. Excited to see what this RX 480 can do VR wise!

OC that beast of CPU!!

+1

I'm actually relatively new to the PC building world, do you think I would be able to OC with my current temps?

Rman917
  • 8 years 7 months ago

I'm a bit late, but I believe the FX series has great overclocking abilities. You should be able to overclock it a bit.

SEkSyBEaVeR
  • 8 years 6 months ago

All good! I currently have it OCd to 4.4! Stable via Prime95!

Rotekk
  • 8 years 8 months ago

OC? That CPU is already cooking underload . Hell his idle is what his max load should be at gaming.

Reset that cooler get some good TIM it's not an intel chip.

SEkSyBEaVeR
  • 8 years 8 months ago

I actually just noticed i swapped CPU with GPU temps. FeelsBadMan. Need those glasses.

Oh thats normal , my bad . Move along nothing to see here.

Claims a blower style cooler is cool, and bottlenecks his CPU

I would've went with a core i5, and a combo mobo, and probably a 960 to even up the price.

For an AMD build i guess it's decent, should really look at Corsair parts before you buy next time, they are lovely and most of the time cheaper in price/better in quality.

Are you saving for a SSD? Because it would increase speed on this rig a pretty good amount.

  • 8 years 8 months ago

I am currently! I decided to go AMD mostly for budget reasons. The RX480 was a huge upgrade from my V5800, plus I had to see what all the hype was about! For ~250 dollars, such an amazing card! Corsair was a close second for cooler, but I had the CoolerMaster ready to go so I didn't bother. Planning on getting a SSD for sure! Just wanted to keep initial budget small!

how about locked i5 6500, cheap mobo, and keep rx480. either way I would keep the 480 in this build. or wait for "zen" as a lot of people seem to be doing.

Great build, How's the reference edition of the 480?

SEkSyBEaVeR
  • 8 years 8 months ago

It's nice! Had me worried about the PCIe situation. But the drivers got upgraded, actually playing GTA V on 113 fps right now, highest graphics!

tehL0L1G4ND3R
  • 8 years 8 months ago

Wow that's pretty good -!How much did you pay for yours? (

SEkSyBEaVeR
  • 8 years 8 months ago

239.99! Got it when there was 3 in stock!

AidenIron
  • 8 years 8 months ago

I like this build besides the overclock I think you should used a stock processor cooler, but other than that it a great build!

SEkSyBEaVeR
  • 8 years 8 months ago

May I ask why you think I should use stock? I feel the cooler I have currently is providing more than enough cooling, probably more than stock!

AidenIron
  • 8 years 8 months ago

the stock cooler is cheaper and is not over clocking the system.

SEkSyBEaVeR
  • 8 years 8 months ago

I actually got the cooler from a friend, so I didn't bother with the stock cooler. What do you mean by "is not over clocking the system"?

AidenIron
  • 8 years 8 months ago

your friend give you a over clock cooler which can be bad for the pc but not always

beastmodegaming
  • 8 years 7 months ago

having a cooler you can over clock with does not hurt your pc lol....

SEkSyBEaVeR
  • 8 years 8 months ago

Still don't quite understand what you're saying, but thanks!

AidenIron
  • 8 years 8 months ago

look at CPU clock rate it is over 3.5

SEkSyBEaVeR
  • 8 years 8 months ago

I'm using the turbo on it! That is my mistake though, it should be 4.1.

sognar
  • 8 years 8 months ago

Very nice! Can I ask what kind of LEDs you bought? I got the Satechi LED kit but the 4 pin molex doesn't fit into my Gs 650. Could be something stupid that I'm over looking.

SEkSyBEaVeR
  • 8 years 8 months ago

I actually just got a strip of basic waterproof LED's. They arent on my motherboard, they're plugged in through the back. Kind of a junky option, but its such a small wire its not that noticeable!

SEkSyBEaVeR

If you have the money, the NZXT Hue+ or even Hue is INCREDIBLE. You should check that out sometime!

Great build for the money, I was actually going to get an RX-480 for my FX-6300 build as well but gave in to my impatience and got an R9 390 lol.

Unfortunately, based on my own experience, the MSI 970 isn't the best at overclocking, you can still overclock but it may or may not be as much as you expect (every chipset is different of course).

I got mine on a 4.4 GHz OC under 1.45V with a Corsair H100i v2, temps are good but I should be getting a much better OC than that, going any higher than that and my voltage will skyrocket in order to get it stable and I recommend not going over 1.5V, that's the danger zone for overclocking on most boards.

SEkSyBEaVeR
  • 8 years 8 months ago

I feel you on the impatience! I had to stay up to get mine, got it at around 3:45 AM haha. R9 390 is still an incredible card! Good choice!

You're correct on the 970,I should be getting some high OC, since this is my first build though, I just set it at its turbo sadly.

Thanks for taking a look!

Hey bro no offense and i cant speak for the time when you where building but man... $880 dollars and u only have a fx 6300?? I mean you can build something sub 700 dollars witih a 6600k which has triple the performance and is on a new socket... You kinda ****** Yourself with that cpu dead platform... And 80 dollars for a 1 tb hdd?? Not worth it...

Imo, AMD CPU is a bad choice, I live Phenom II. It's slow and the heat is uncomfortable. even i3 outperforms it.
